Substrates

Liquid metal coating can be applied to almost any substrate with the exceptions of waxed or silicone surfaces.

We’ve included some detail on common substrates below, but if you have any questions please contact us or give us a call. We’re happy to help with any queries you might have regarding suitable substrates and applications.

  • MDF

Liquid metal coatings can turn ordinary MDF into a stunning and distinctive surface without significantly increasing the weight of the substrate.

MDF can be CNC cut with surface patterns and textures to create unique panels and furniture.

  • Sheet Metal

Thin sheet metal is the ideal substrate for insert panels for cupboard doors and a great substrate for liquid metal coatings.

Sheet for indoor use only need to be supplied to the workshop rust free and raw with all welds cleaned.

Sheet for outdoor use need to be supplied to the workshop with a smooth hot dipped galvanised finish.

  • Corian & HiMacs

A substrate that is commonly used in kitchens and bathrooms for its water & fire resistant properties.

It can be thermo formed to create curves and bonded together producing a seamless joint making a it perfect substrate for Liquid Metal coatings.

  • Timber

Liquid metal coatings on timber can create exceptional results, especially with a deep grain as the grain will still be visible.

Wooden substrates must be sealed well before the coating is applied.

  • Acrylic

Acrylic can be shaped, bent, or molded before applying liquid metal finishes. The liquid spray adheres effortlessly to curves and easily navigates corners.

Acrylic is the ideal substrate for producing signage with a liquid metal finish.

  • Metal Extrusions

Metalier can be applied to fully welded steel frames and balustrades.

Steel frames for indoor use only need to be supplied to the workshop rust free and raw with all welds cleaned.

Steel frames for outdoor use need to be supplied to the workshop with a smooth hot dipped galvanised finish.

  • Concrete

Liquid Metal coatings can be used on concrete if the concrete is fully sealed. It's important to consider if the finish is for indoor or outdoor use and to ensure moisture will not be trapped or absorbed by the concrete.

  • Fibreglass

Fibreglass serves as an excellent substrate for Metalier coatings. As for acrylic, the liquid spray adheres smoothly and effectively to moulded textures and contours, ensuring a seamless finish.
